About Baker Nest

While making and displaying large barn quilts outside on barns is not a new concept, the idea of bringing barn quilts inside for home decor use is.

As a home decorator, the pairing seemed like a match made in cozy, vintage home heaven. The perfect way to display beautiful, old quilt patterns in a fresh, new way.

As an antique dealer, It seemed like the perfect way to continue the tradition of a beautiful folk art and encouraging a current generation sew (or paint) their own stories.

As a historian, it seemed like a good way to ensure this history and traditional of the barn quilt doesn’t get lost as we transition from a rural, agricultural society  to a more urban  landscape.

As an educator, it seemed only logical to make this art accessible to everyone by creating designs and patterns that are detailed and easy to follow!

Our Goals

  1. Bring the beauty and history of the barn quilt to home decor.
  2. Tons of inspiration
  3. Making paint your own barn quilt fun and easy for all skill and age levels
  4. seasonal diy projects & gift ideas
  5. beautiful patterns that are rooted in history but relevant designs and color pallets for the 21st century home

About Katie Baker

I have spent many years as a barn quilt maker and pattern designer and taught classes and spoken about the barn quilt movement all across the country. I have an extensive education in history and pedagogy and immense experience in home decorating, vintage/ antique curating & collecting, woodworking, photography, sales, and social media . Basically, a jack of all trades! ;) But all my roads have led me here and prepared me for this.

I’m extremely passionate about what we do and how far we’ve come at Baker Nest  in just a few  short years. 2020 is shaping up to be our biggest year yet with events planned at The American Quilter’s Society largest quiltweek in Kentucky, The Pinner’s Conference in Georgia, and the Country Living Magazine Fair in Tennessee. Not to mention, all the growing attention we’ve received by the decor community to include The Cottage Journal, Country Homes Magazine, & Country Living Magazine , just to name a few.
